Responsibilities
- Own engineering work for hospital integrations, from initial technical discovery through reliable production data delivery.
- Build, maintain, and troubleshoot connections to electronic health record and other hospital systems.
- Handle authentication, API integrations, data mapping, and integration monitoring.
- Work directly with hospital IT and clinical teams to investigate technical problems and understand operational requirements.
- Test proposed solutions with the people who use them and refine implementations based on feedback.
- Develop customer-specific tools, analytics, and workflows when existing product functionality does not meet hospital requirements.
- Identify recurring customer needs and turn successful solutions into reusable connectors, validation tools, and product features.
- Ensure integrations are reliable, maintainable, and suitable for production healthcare environments.
- Make technical decisions independently, balancing customer requirements, engineering trade-offs, and long-term product scalability.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience building and operating production software.
- Strong backend engineering, API development, data modeling, and SQL skills.
- Experience delivering complex third-party integrations in collaboration with external technical teams.
- Demonstrated ability to build software around customer workflows and improve solutions based on real-world usage.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate unclear or loosely defined technical requirements.
- Ability to explain technical trade-offs to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Comfortable working directly with customers and determining appropriate solutions without relying on fully defined specifications.
- Proficiency with Python and TypeScript is relevant to the company’s engineering stack.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience founding a company or working as an early engineer with broad ownership of technical challenges.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7 or FHIR.
- Strong integration engineering judgment, including the ability to work with complex third-party systems.
Work Environment and Expectations
- The role involves regular collaboration with hospital IT and clinical teams.
- Engineers are expected to take ownership of ambiguous problems and build practical solutions rather than simply maintain existing interfaces.
- The position requires hands-on system development, customer interaction, and production integration work.
- Working hours may vary depending on hospital deployment schedules. Hospital go-lives can occasionally require weeks exceeding 60 hours, although the company emphasizes protecting time for rest.
