About the Role
The Forward Deployed Engineer will build software directly with hospital teams and turn successful solutions into reusable product capabilities. The role focuses heavily on hospital integrations, technical discovery, production data, and customer-specific engineering solutions.

The engineer will work closely with hospital IT and clinical teams to understand their systems, workflows, and technical requirements. Responsibilities will include building and operating integrations, troubleshooting complex data and API issues, developing customer-facing tools and analytics, and identifying recurring patterns that can be transformed into reusable connectors, validation tools, and product features.

The primary technology stack includes Python and TypeScript.

Responsibilities

• Own engineering work for hospital integrations, from technical discovery through reliable production data.
• Build and debug connections to electronic health record and other healthcare systems, including authentication, APIs, data mapping, and monitoring.
• Collaborate directly with hospital IT and clinical teams to investigate technical problems and test solutions with end users.
• Develop customer-specific tools, analytics, and workflows when standard product capabilities do not fully address a hospital’s needs.
• Transform recurring customer requests into reusable connectors, validation tools, and product features.
• Work across backend systems, APIs, data models, and SQL-based workflows.
• Support production deployments and troubleshoot complex integration issues.
• Make independent engineering decisions when requirements are unclear or incomplete.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and operating production software.
• Strong backend engineering, API, data modeling, and SQL skills.
• Experience taking complex third-party integrations into production while working directly with the technical team on the other side.
• Demonstrated ability to build software around customer workflows and improve solutions based on real-world usage.
• Strong customer-facing communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to investigate ambiguous problems, explain technical tradeoffs, and determine appropriate solutions without requiring a complete specification.
• Comfortable working directly with hospital technical and clinical teams.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience founding a company or working as an early engineer with ownership of complex, ambiguous technical problems.
• Experience working with Electronic Health Records (EHRs), HL7, or FHIR.
• Healthcare technology or hospital systems experience.
• Strong engineering judgment in complex integrations and production environments.

Work Environment

• The role involves regular collaboration with hospital teams and is not exclusively heads-down engineering work.
• The position may require extended working hours during critical hospital go-lives or production deployments.
• The role is best suited for engineers who enjoy customer-facing work, complex integrations, and building systems rather than only maintaining interfaces or implementing fully specified requirements.
