Responsibilities
- Embed with power engineers and the U.S. go-to-market team to understand real workflows, customer problems, operational constraints, and underlying needs.
- Identify high-leverage opportunities where AI-enabled tooling and software can improve utility-focused workflows.
- Serve as the primary field customer and product partner for new tooling developed with Product and Engineering teams.
- Use new FDE and AI tools on live work to evaluate their usefulness, correctness, reliability, and fit with critical infrastructure environments.
- Translate field evidence into clear product requirements, priorities, acceptance criteria, and actionable feedback for Product and Engineering.
- Investigate data, write Python and SQL, build prototypes and integrations, debug workflows, and develop production-quality software when appropriate.
- Support high-priority customer work and remain closely connected to customer-facing technical challenges.
- Lead rollout and adoption of new tools across the U.S. team, including onboarding, training, and hands-on support during real engagements.
- Establish operating standards, measure adoption and outcomes, and address regression toward less effective workflows.
- Define quality standards for AI-assisted work, including appropriate human review requirements and processes for documenting lessons and failure modes.
- Convert recurring field requirements into reusable workflows, product capabilities, and playbooks.
- Help leadership establish the Forward Deployed Engineering operating model, including engagement criteria, decision rights, handoffs, and measures of success.
- Work as a senior individual contributor while helping establish how the FDE function operates.
Qualifications
- Experience as a product-minded software engineer who has built and shipped maintainable software within a product engineering organization.
- Strong understanding of software discovery, prioritization, development, testing, and operational practices.
- Meaningful experience in power systems, utilities, grid technology, or adjacent critical infrastructure environments is strongly preferred.
- Ability to establish technical credibility with domain experts and understand the importance of correctness in critical infrastructure.
- Strong hands-on engineering skills with Python, SQL, APIs, data pipelines, cloud systems, and modern developer tooling.
- Ability to independently investigate problems, build prototypes, debug systems, and ship solutions.
- Understanding of modern data and AI workflows.
- Experience with platforms such as Databricks and AI-native developer or agentic tooling is valuable.
- Familiarity with rigorous approaches to AI evaluation, security, reliability, and correctness.
- Strong discovery and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root problems and distinguish recurring opportunities from one-off requests.
- Strong product judgment and the ability to determine when to build, iterate, simplify, or stop.
- Experience driving adoption of new tools or workflows among busy technical teams operating under active delivery pressures.
- Ability to build adoption through technical credibility, evidence, communication, and clear operating standards.
- Strong communication skills across technical engineers, utility leaders, and executive stakeholders.
- Ability to connect technical solutions with customer and commercial outcomes.
- High level of ownership, initiative, sound judgment, and comfort working across functional boundaries without relying on formal authority.
- Willingness to travel regularly and spend meaningful time with customers and U.S.-based teams.
- Ability to use direct customer and field observation as an important source of engineering and product input.
