Summary
The Data Engineer will own the full lifecycle of healthcare data, including data management, extraction, storage, semantic knowledge generation, and user-facing tools for viewing and managing information. The role sits at the intersection of data management, ML/AI research, and software engineering.

The position will work closely with software engineers, medical experts, and other professionals to build scalable data management and extraction solutions that support products such as Provider Matching, Scheduling, Referral Recommendation, and AI voice agents.

Responsibilities

  • Build and own the core data management system.
  • Develop data-fetching solutions through integrations with systems such as EPIC.
  • Build flexible, scalable, efficient, and HIPAA-compliant data storage solutions.
  • Develop user-facing interfaces to view and manage data.
  • Extract knowledge from real-world healthcare data.
  • Build a knowledge extraction layer on top of raw data.
  • Summarize key results from provider notes.
  • Extract important high-level properties from raw healthcare data.
  • Work closely with engineers, medical experts, and other stakeholders to develop effective data solutions.
  • Own the full data lifecycle, including data retrieval, storage, processing, extraction, and user-facing management.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of data engineering experience.
  • Experience with data extraction and summarization.
  • Experience working directly with end users in an iterative process and incorporating feedback.
  • Strong backend engineering skills and systems-thinking abilities.
  • Experience working with ambiguous problems and defining solutions from first principles.
  • Experience turning novel techniques into testable prototypes.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with evaluation frameworks and quality measurement.
  • Experience working with medical AI systems.
  • Experience extracting text or data from PDFs and images.
  • Experience working with structured and unstructured healthcare data.

Example Experience

  • Built extensible data storage systems for medical data across multiple partners.
  • Built data extraction, summarization, and property-tagging systems for structured or unstructured text.
  • Built user interfaces for displaying, updating, and searching data stored in underlying systems.
