Summary
The Engineering Manager will be the first dedicated engineering manager supporting teams in San Francisco. This role combines people leadership with hands-on technical involvement, including system design, architecture, and code review. The manager will help grow engineering teams, develop talent, establish effective management practices, and contribute to the delivery of complex financial technology products.

Responsibilities

• Manage, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers.
• Build trust within engineering teams and support individual growth and performance.
• Maintain hands-on involvement in system design, architecture, and technical decision-making.
• Lead engineering initiatives across data infrastructure, financial reporting, accounting automation, workflows, AI, and user experience.
• Guide teams building data ingestion, transformation, and lineage infrastructure.
• Support development of flexible financial reporting experiences, from high-level projections to individual transactions.
• Lead development of systems that structure financial data and automate manual accounting processes.
• Guide teams building complex accounting workflows with dependency management, automation, and AI-enabled experiences.
• Establish engineering management processes, team rituals, and quality standards appropriate for a growing organization.
• Balance organizational scaling with practical and efficient processes.
• Participate in hiring, performance management, prioritization, and overall team delivery.
• Collaborate closely with product and engineering stakeholders to build high-quality software and user experiences.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience, including significant hands-on engineering experience.
• 2+ years of direct experience managing software engineers.
• Demonstrated ownership of hiring, performance management, and engineering team outcomes.
• Strong technical skills in system design, architecture, and software development.
• Ability to remain technically engaged while leading and developing engineering teams.
• Strong motivation, initiative, and ability to operate with a high degree of ownership.
• Ability to learn and navigate complex technical and business domains.
• Commitment to high-quality engineering and ambitious product goals.
• Strong understanding of software abstractions, architecture, and product development.
• Experience building effective engineering teams and establishing appropriate processes and standards.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience managing teams working in complex technical domains.
• Fintech, financial technology, accounting, or related industry experience.
• Experience founding a company or building products from the ground up.
• Experience as an early engineering hire who progressed into an engineering management role.
• Demonstrated track record in recruiting and hiring engineering talent.
