The Credit Card business team is building sophisticated analytical capabilities to better understand consumer credit behavior and support responsible lending decisions. The team works with traditional and non-traditional data sources to develop predictive models that help deliver accessible and effective financial services.

The Staff Data Scientist, ML (Credit Risk) will develop credit risk models that support responsible lending and customer-focused financial decisions. These models will influence decisions including credit approval, credit line assignment at origination, and future credit limit increases.

The successful candidate will own the full model development lifecycle, from data preparation and feature development through model building, deployment, maintenance, and monitoring. The role requires strong expertise in data science, credit modeling, statistical analysis, and collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build credit risk models for customer acquisition, including credit approval and credit limit assignment.
  • Develop models for customer management and ongoing credit decisions.
  • Collaborate with credit analysts and product managers to understand business challenges and develop appropriate analytical solutions.
  • Create rich datasets using both traditional and non-traditional data sources.
  • Develop innovative features and analytical tools that improve model predictive performance.
  • Deploy, maintain, and monitor credit risk models in production environments.
  • Communicate analytical findings, model results, and key insights to senior stakeholders across credit, product, and engineering teams.
  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of credit risk model development.
  • Apply advanced data science and machine learning techniques to complex financial problems.
  • Support responsible lending decisions through accurate, scalable, and well-monitored models.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in data science and credit modeling.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python for data analysis and modeling.
  • Experience designing experiments and interpreting results to inform product and business decisions.
  • Strong domain knowledge and expertise in traditional credit data.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, statistical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience developing and deploying machine learning or predictive models.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with non-traditional credit data, including cash-flow data.
  • Experience developing highly predictive credit risk models.
  • Experience working with large-scale datasets and feature engineering.
  • Experience collaborating with credit, product, engineering, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of responsible lending and credit risk decision-making.

Work Arrangement

The role is based in the Menlo Park, California, or Washington, DC offices, with in-person attendance expected at least three days per week. The position emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and an engaging office environment designed to support high-performing teams.
