Company Overview
A leading aerospace and technology organization is developing advanced technologies designed to expand humanity’s capabilities in space exploration. The Special Programs team focuses on engineering and deploying AI capabilities, including models, APIs, tools, and integrations, for U.S. federal agencies. The team works closely with product, research, infrastructure, and legal and governance teams to make AI technologies highly useful for mission-critical applications while maintaining strong standards for safety, transparency, and responsible deployment.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and optimize integrations between frontier AI models, including the Grok family, and government systems, platforms, and data environments.
- Collaborate on custom SDKs, APIs, developer tools, and technical documentation designed for government and enterprise developers.
- Partner with agency stakeholders to understand requirements, develop prototypes, and rapidly iterate solutions based on real-world feedback.
- Develop and ship production-grade software and features with an emphasis on speed, simplicity, reliability, and measurable impact.
- Work across product, research, infrastructure, and governance functions to support the responsible deployment of AI technologies.
- Develop scalable systems and integrations that address complex government and enterprise use cases.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or another STEM discipline, or 2+ years of professional software development experience in lieu of a degree.
- 6+ years of hands-on software engineering experience building scalable systems, APIs, or AI/ML applications.
- Strong proficiency in Python, with experience in additional programming languages considered beneficial.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience working with large language models, Generative AI, or agentic systems in research, production, or applied engineering environments.
- Familiarity with government or public-sector technology environments, including federal civilian agencies, state and local government, or regulated industries such as healthcare, finance, and infrastructure.
- Strong product-oriented thinking and the ability to translate ambiguous stakeholder requirements into practical technical solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to develop clean, maintainable, and high-performance software under demanding timelines.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and intellectual curiosity, particularly when addressing complex and ambiguous technical challenges.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with AI safety, governance, red-teaming, or responsible AI deployment.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with API orchestration.
- Background in policy-adjacent technical roles, civic technology, or public-interest technology.
- Contributions to open-source AI projects or developer tools.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends when required.
- Ability to travel approximately 20% of the time to government sites.
- Successful acquisition and maintenance of a Top Secret Security Clearance is required as a condition of employment.
- Candidates may be required to initiate the security clearance process promptly after accepting an offer.
- Failure to obtain the required security clearance may result in modifications to employment responsibilities or termination of employment based on operational requirements.
