The organization is seeking a Software Engineer, Frontier Data Products to help build the production systems that power large-scale expert-driven AI workflows. This role focuses on designing and operating backend infrastructure that coordinates human expertise, automated processing, and AI model outputs to deliver reliable, high-quality results for customers.

The successful candidate will work on complex orchestration challenges involving long-running workflows, distributed state management, and production-grade reliability. This position offers the opportunity to shape core architecture decisions and build systems that sit directly between customer requests and delivered outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Design services and state models for multi-stage workflows involving automated processing and expert review.
• Build orchestration capabilities such as retries, failure recovery, idempotency, and auditable state transitions.
• Develop systems that support long-running jobs with the ability to handle partial reprocessing and state changes.
• Integrate AI model inference into production workflows while maintaining transparency, reliability, and human oversight.
• Build APIs and internal tooling that enable product, operations, and machine learning teams to manage and troubleshoot workflows at scale.
• Own the reliability, observability, and performance of critical workflow systems.
• Design distributed state management solutions that maintain correctness across complex, evolving processes.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to translate business and technical requirements into scalable system designs.
• Take ownership of systems throughout their lifecycle, from architecture and implementation to operations and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

• Strong production backend engineering experience with a focus on scalable and maintainable systems.
• Deep understanding of system design principles, service architecture, and complexity management.
• Hands-on experience with distributed systems concepts including asynchronous workflows, queues, retries, idempotency, and long-running jobs.
• Ability to translate ambiguous product, operational, and machine learning requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Proficiency in Python development.
• Experience working with AWS and PostgreSQL.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills for complex stateful systems.
• Experience with workflow orchestration platforms such as Temporal or similar technologies is a plus.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional environments.
