The organization is seeking an Engineering Manager, Applied AI to lead high-impact engineering teams focused on improving AI model quality through evaluation systems, annotation platforms, and emerging multimodal technologies. This role combines technical leadership, people management, and strategic execution to drive innovation across AI-powered products and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Build and Scale Teams

• Lead, manage, and grow a team of 6–10 engineers.
• Coach and develop high-performing engineering talent.
• Establish strong ownership, accountability, and execution standards.
• Drive hiring efforts and help build scalable engineering processes and best practices.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Drive Applied AI Systems and Outcomes

• Lead the development of systems that evaluate and improve AI model performance.
• Drive initiatives that enhance data quality, operational efficiency, scalability, and system reliability.
• Scale products that generate high-quality training data and optimize human-in-the-loop workflows.
• Support the development of methodologies and insights that advance AI evaluation capabilities.

Own Technical Direction

• Guide architectural decisions and system design for complex AI platforms.
• Remain closely involved in technical execution while supporting engineering teams.
• Translate strategic AI objectives into actionable engineering roadmaps and delivery plans.
• Help engineers navigate complex technical challenges and ambiguity.

Operate Across a Broad Scope

• Collaborate with product, research, operations, and external AI partners.
• Work across data systems, engineering platforms, and AI workflows to improve model quality.
• Support strategic partnerships and cross-functional initiatives that advance organizational goals.

Shape the Organization

• Introduce scalable and efficient engineering processes as teams grow.
• Recruit, develop, and retain exceptional engineering talent.
• Contribute to defining engineering management practices and leadership standards.
• Help build a strong engineering culture that supports long-term growth and innovation.

Required Qualifications

• 6–10 years of professional engineering experience.
• 2–3+ years of engineering management experience leading technical teams.
• Strong background in designing and building scalable software systems.
• Demonstrated ability to lead effectively in ambiguous and rapidly evolving environments.
• Proven experience coaching engineers and driving high-quality execution.
• Strong technical judgment and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ownership mindset with a pragmatic and results-oriented approach to decision-making.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
