Summary
The Principal Engineer – Cloud and Datacenter Software will lead the architecture and optimization of cloud and datacenter workloads while working directly with enterprise customers and technical stakeholders. This role combines deep technical expertise, customer engagement, and industry leadership to develop innovative software solutions, optimize workload performance, and influence future platform architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Partner directly with customers to understand application architectures, business requirements, and performance-critical workloads.
  • Develop architecture and optimization strategies across cloud, on-premises, and hyperscale environments.
  • Lead workload optimization using platform software, compilers, development tools, libraries, and frameworks.
  • Identify opportunities to improve software architecture, including NUMA optimization, cache awareness, branch prediction, and next-generation platform enhancements.
  • Influence technical direction across the organization and the broader technology industry as a recognized technical leader.
  • Mentor and develop technical talent while promoting engineering excellence and knowledge sharing.
  • Drive participation and leadership within open-source communities and identify opportunities to strengthen the software ecosystem.
  • Collaborate across engineering teams to align long-term technical strategy with business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience developing or architecting software frameworks or workloads, including at least 5 years in cloud and datacenter technologies.
  • At least 3 years of direct customer-facing technical experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in workload optimization, performance profiling tools, and cloud software architecture.
  • Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant technical field is preferred.
  • Experience gathering customer requirements, analyzing workloads, designing optimization strategies, and communicating technical recommendations.
  • Contributions to the cloud technology industry through technical publications, conference presentations, patents, code contributions, or technical blogs are highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with performance analysis tools, compiler technologies, software libraries, and workload profiling methodologies.
  • Expertise in one or more cloud workload domains, including AI, data services, storage, web technologies, or media workloads.
  • Strong understanding of optimizing workloads for future cloud and datacenter architectures.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
