Summary
The Senior Director R&D Portfolio Data Strategy & Insights will provide strategic leadership for data, AI, and GenAI initiatives within R&D Project and Portfolio Management. This role is essential for building and maintaining a high-quality, FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data foundation that enables robust portfolio analytics, pipeline reporting, competitive intelligence, and strategic decision-making across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for Data, AI, GenAI, and Agentic AI initiatives across R&D Project and Portfolio Management
  • Lead delivery of AI data products to generate transformational impact across portfolio and project analytics
  • Develop and improve foundational data assets, ensuring adoption of governance standards across all R&D applications
  • Drive operational innovation using advanced analytics, machine learning, computer vision, GenAI, and Agentic AI to optimize decision-making
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with internal stakeholders across Project Management, R&D Digital, Portfolio Analytics, Finance, and Data Office
  • Prioritize and plan roadmaps for AI transformation initiatives, balancing short-term wins with long-term strategic objectives
  • Lead digital transformation initiatives that leverage data as a strategic asset
  • Implement comprehensive data governance frameworks supporting portfolio analytics and strategic decisions
  • Standardize data definitions and ensure interoperability across R&D systems and platforms
  • Ensure quality, accuracy, and completeness of portfolio-critical data
  • Act as a subject matter expert for portfolio data and provide guidance on data stewardship, ownership, and compliance
  • Engage with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to translate data governance requirements into actionable frameworks
  • Monitor adoption of data best practices and foster a data-driven culture

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D., MBA, or equivalent) in life sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, Data Science, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in portfolio data strategy, portfolio management, analytics, or a related field within pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries
  • Expert knowledge of data governance frameworks, metadata management, and data cataloging
  • Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and stakeholder influence skills
  • Deep understanding of AI and machine learning principles, particularly data requirements for AI applications
  • Hands-on experience with building and deploying data and AI solutions, enabling end-user adoption
  • Proven ability to develop new capabilities and collaborate effectively across functions
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal
