Company Overview
A leading financial institution is seeking an experienced professional to join its Risk Management Group (RMG). The RMG develops and maintains risk management and internal control frameworks, providing independent review and challenge to ensure balanced risk/return decisions. The team monitors key risk issues across the bank and invests in people and infrastructure to drive strong financial performance. The Data and AI Risk team within RMG focuses on managing emerging risks related to data and artificial intelligence initiatives.
Summary
The AVP/VP, Data and AI Risk, will develop and maintain a comprehensive risk management framework for Data and AI initiatives across the bank. This role ensures alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices while providing strategic guidance and operational oversight to safeguard the bank’s AI and data operations.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain a comprehensive Data and AI risk management framework aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
Identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor risks related to data governance, data security, data architecture, AI governance, algorithmic bias, and AI explainability
Develop and implement Data and AI Risk Management Policies and Standards on a Groupwide basis
Assess new Data and AI initiatives, providing risk-based recommendations and challenging proposals to ensure controls are in place prior to deployment
Conduct regular risk assessments and reviews of existing Data and AI systems, identifying vulnerabilities and recommending improvements
Review data quality monitoring processes and assess data KRIs to ensure potential risks are addressed
Maintain awareness of emerging Data and AI risks and regulatory developments, proactively mitigating threats
Collaborate with Data Management Teams, Business Units, Support Units, and Technology teams to embed risk considerations into the Data and AI lifecycle
Provide Line 2 advisory support to Line 1 BU/SUs on Data and AI initiatives and processes
Contribute to the development and implementation of the bank’s overall risk appetite for Data and AI
Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on Data and AI risk issues and mitigation strategies
Participate in industry forums and share best practices to stay updated on emerging trends in Data and AI risk management
Qualifications
Minimum 8+ years of experience in risk management with a strong focus on Data and AI risk
Proven experience in developing and implementing risk management frameworks and methodologies
Strong knowledge of regulations and industry best practices for Data and AI risk, including model risk management
Applied Machine Learning experience is a plus
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with effective risk assessment skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Banking, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field
Relevant certifications such as CRISC, CISM, or related risk/security certifications are preferred
