The organization is seeking a AI Research Engineer to partner closely with product teams and advance AI-powered experiences, including sophisticated notebook-based AI agents. The role combines AI research, software engineering, machine learning, experimentation, and infrastructure development to create reliable and highly capable AI experiences for data professionals.
The successful candidate will help develop the platform’s context engine and advance the capabilities of its Notebook Agent. The role involves experimenting with models, fine-tuning AI systems, deploying AI infrastructure, developing experimentation tools, and improving the quality and accuracy of AI-generated data experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Build AI-powered features and experiences from 0 to 1.
- Partner with product teams to determine the architecture and technology stack for AI-enabled capabilities.
- Develop production AI applications that fundamentally improve how Data Scientists and Analysts work.
- Run experiments and rapidly iterate on new AI capabilities.
- Fine-tune models and evaluate their performance for real-world applications.
- Deploy and maintain AI infrastructure supporting production workloads.
- Build and maintain experimentation and evaluation tooling.
- Advance the capabilities of the Notebook Agent and its context engine.
- Improve SQL generation quality and other AI-powered data workflows.
- Develop methods for evaluating AI agent interactions and outputs.
- Build accurate and curated data experiences that help organizations make data-driven decisions.
- Work at the cutting edge of production AI applications.
- Contribute to technical architecture and engineering decisions across greenfield initiatives.
- Maintain high standards for product quality, correctness, design, and testing.
- Provide technical and team leadership opportunities based on experience and interests.
Required Qualifications
- Professional experience getting AI or machine learning capabilities into production and serving real users.
- Experience as an AI Engineer, Software Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer, or in a closely related engineering discipline.
- Strong understanding of modern MLOps and software architecture concepts for machine learning-based applications.
- Experience with production AI infrastructure and deployment.
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript, with an openness to working across both.
- Experience working on AI or ML applications that solve real-world business problems.
- Ability to rapidly experiment, iterate, and evaluate new technical approaches.
- Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience maintaining a high quality bar for software design, correctness, and testing.
- Interest in the data and analytics space.
- Passion for building high-quality products and tools that empower end users.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong infrastructure expertise within MLOps.
- Experience building AI agents, LLM-powered applications, or data copilots.
- Experience with SQL generation or AI-assisted programming.
- Experience developing model evaluation frameworks and experimentation systems.
- Experience building highly technical data science or analytics products.
- Experience working in greenfield AI applications.
- Strong interest in advancing AI capabilities for data science workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of projects and drive them from concept through production.
