A leading technology organization is seeking an AI Platform Architect to drive large-scale AI and ML systems across engineering teams. The role combines deep technical expertise, architectural leadership, and cross-functional influence to shape system-wide decisions.

Summary
The AI Platform Architect will design, evolve, and optimize large-scale AI/ML platforms, embedding advanced systems safely into engineering workflows. This role requires a rare combination of distributed systems expertise, AI/ML knowledge, and the ability to influence senior leadership while driving architectural change across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and evolve large-scale AI/ML systems that are reliable, scalable, and maintainable
  • Drive cross-organization platform initiatives impacting millions of users
  • Influence engineering culture and operational standards to improve quality and efficiency
  • Make system-shaping decisions around centralization vs. federation of capabilities
  • Embed AI agents and LLM-based tools safely into engineering workflows
  • Unify ranking, recall, and transactional systems across monetized and organic surfaces
  • Launch new AI-native products and platforms on clean, scalable foundations
  • Monitor and improve reliability metrics while supporting innovation

Essential Skills

  • Deep understanding of distributed systems and AI/ML system realities
  • Experience operating at Staff+/Principal level in large-scale systems
  • Proven track record of driving architectural change across multiple teams
  • Experience with reliability, search, ML, or transaction-heavy platforms
  • Strong ability to influence senior leaders and cross-functional teams
  • Focus on long-term system leverage and second-order effects

What Success Looks Like (12–18 Months)

  • AI-assisted engineering is fully integrated into daily workflows
  • Reliability metrics show structural improvement
  • Cross-platform capabilities converge and scale effectively
  • At least one new AI-native business launches on a solid foundation
  • Engineering quality standards are institutionalized
