About the Role and Team

The organization is seeking a Staff Data Scientist, Tech to provide analytics-focused technical leadership across core platforms and global marketplaces. This role will transform complex data into strategic clarity and serve as a technical North Star for long-term product, engineering, and operational decisions.

The successful candidate will identify important business questions, anticipate architectural challenges and opportunities at organizational scale, and establish analytical frameworks that support sustainable growth. The position requires strong technical judgment, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence senior Product, Engineering, and Operations leaders.

This is a high-impact leadership role focused on technical stewardship, scientific rigor, and scalable design. The position is particularly suited to an experienced data scientist who wants to guide organizations through the complexities of global scale rather than focus primarily on developing and productionizing niche machine learning models.

Rate of Pay: $198,000 to $242,000 per year

The position may include eligibility for a bonus program and other forms of compensation, as well as various employee benefits.

Key Responsibilities

• Leverage data to perform intensive analysis across business areas and drive product development.
• Design experiments and analyze results to draw statistically sound conclusions.
• Perform time-series analysis, hypothesis testing, and causal analysis to assess relative impact and identify meaningful trends.
• Build models that improve understanding of user behavior and predict future cohort performance.
• Create dashboards and reports to communicate findings and monitor important business and product metrics.
• Extract data from data warehouses, back-test models, evaluate model performance, and communicate analytical results.
• Develop end-to-end analytical solutions for business and engineering challenges involving funnel optimization, user engagement, and user experience.
• Partner strategically with senior Product, Engineering, and Operations leadership to ensure long-term roadmaps are grounded in rigorous scientific analysis and scalable design.
• Provide technical mentorship and help elevate the capabilities of other data scientists.
• Identify emerging business opportunities and potential architectural challenges well in advance.
• May telecommute.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Information Management, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
• Five years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the position offered or a related occupation.
• Proficiency in R or Python.
• Experience with database query languages, including SQL.
• Experience with experimentation techniques, including simulation and A/B testing.
• Strong statistical analysis skills, including descriptive statistics, correlation, regression, and confidence intervals.
• Experience developing relevant metrics and KPIs to measure product team performance.
• Experience with quantitative modeling, including machine learning models, time-series forecasting, or causal impact analysis.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to communicate complex analytical findings effectively to technical and business stakeholders.
• Experience collaborating with senior cross-functional leadership and mentoring other professionals.
