A leading global technology company is expanding its enterprise managed-service offering for custom multimodal generative AI. The platform develops deeply tuned image, video, and 3D models using customer intellectual property, combined with creative production workflows and media intelligence capabilities. These technologies support industries including Media and Entertainment, marketing, and consumer retail and are being expanded into additional verticals.

The Opportunity

The organization is seeking a Staff Applied Scientist, 3D – Firefly Foundry to help advance large-scale, industry-level pre-training and mid-training of multimodal generative models, with a particular focus on dynamic and physically accurate 3D worlds.

The role will have a direct impact on the quality and capabilities of next-generation generative models while supporting advanced creative workflows for users worldwide. The successful candidate will work alongside applied researchers and engineers to innovate across the full model training stack, collaborate across data, modeling, and product teams, and translate research into technologies delivered to customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build novel generative models and pipelines supporting mesh generation, physically based material generation, texture generation, scene reconstruction, lighting estimation, animation, and simulation.
  • Develop solutions for Media and Entertainment applications as well as high-fidelity product imagery.
  • Build agentic workflows that use AI systems to create, manipulate, repair, annotate, evaluate, and refine 3D and 4D content.
  • Develop large-scale synthetic data pipelines involving game and rendering engines, digital environments, 3D geometry, physically based materials, lighting, animation, and simulation.
  • Develop, implement, and rigorously evaluate advanced techniques for conditional generation and editing.
  • Improve instruction compliance, controllability, and visual quality in pretrained generative models.
  • Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and product teams to translate multimodal AI innovations into scalable downstream applications.
  • Develop and maintain robust evaluation pipelines to assess generative models across quality, efficiency, robustness, and safety metrics.
  • Translate research concepts and published work into production-ready implementations using Python and modern machine learning frameworks.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative generative AI technologies for next-generation digital experiences.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Graphics, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of industry experience.
  • Extensive practical experience in large-scale Generative AI training, particularly image and video generation and editing.
  • Experience with diffusion models, transformers, or other state-of-the-art generative architectures.
  • Strong working knowledge of 3D content systems, including meshes, materials, textures, scene structures, cameras, lighting, coordinate systems, skeletal animation, and motion workflows.
  • Strong coding and prototyping skills in Python, PyTorch, and machine learning infrastructure tools.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working with product teams to transfer research and technology into practical applications.
  • Strong publication record in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or related fields.
