Its AI organization is focused on transforming frontier Large Language Model capabilities into trusted, reliable, and high-value product experiences that enable enterprise customers to work more effectively with AI.
The organization is seeking a Director of Engineering, AI Agents to lead and scale a flagship AI Teammates engineering pillar within its Core/AI organization. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, AI & AWM, this leader will oversee four key engineering teams covering AI Teammates Platform, AI Teammates Experience, AI Chat Experience, and Agent Orchestration.
The role will be responsible for defining end-to-end engineering strategy, execution, and architecture for how humans and AI collaborate across enterprise workflows. The position is based in San Francisco with an office-centric hybrid schedule, with standard in-office days on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategy, direction, and execution across four core engineering teams covering platform, experience, chat, and agent orchestration.
- Align organizational goals, metrics, and priorities with the broader AI vision while balancing business, customer, and technical requirements.
- Own the end-to-end technical strategy for enterprise-grade AI platforms and systems.
- Lead initiatives involving model rollouts, evaluation infrastructure, tool orchestration, Model Context Protocol (MCP), and proactivity engines.
- Develop reliable and scalable agentic systems designed to support enterprise customers.
- Define the next generation of human-AI collaboration through chat interfaces, discovery and onboarding experiences, in-product explainability, human-in-the-loop workflows, and governance capabilities.
- Build integrations, Agent Skills, and MCP frameworks that enable AI agents to coordinate complex, multi-step workflows across external and internal systems.
- Enable AI agents to interact with platforms such as Slack, Salesforce, coding agents, and internal enterprise systems.
- Scale the engineering organization by recruiting, developing, and retaining high-performing engineering leaders and technical talent.
- Develop leadership capabilities across teams while fostering an inclusive culture focused on engineering excellence and psychological safety.
- Partner closely with R&D, Product, Design, Security, and Legal teams to align technical, product, and business priorities.
- Maintain strategic partnerships with leading AI research and technology organizations.
- Balance short-term customer needs with long-term architectural investments and organizational growth.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of software engineering experience.
- 4+ years of experience leading multiple engineering teams or engineering managers.
- Proven experience developing and executing multi-team engineering strategies.
- Track record of delivering complex production systems at scale.
- Deep understanding of applied AI and Large Language Model technologies.
- Experience with LLM evaluation frameworks and agent/tool orchestration.
- Strong understanding of Model Context Protocol (MCP), proactivity models, and production observability.
- Experience across backend and systems reliability, complex full-stack product experiences, and enterprise governance and permissions models.
- Demonstrated ability to manage strategic trade-offs, technical risks, and ambiguity across multiple quarters.
- Proven ability to attract, hire, mentor, and retain senior engineers and engineering managers.
- Strong commitment to building diverse, inclusive, and high-performing engineering organizations.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to connect business, product, and technical perspectives.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with executive stakeholders, engineering organizations, product teams, and enterprise customers.
