The organization is seeking a Staff Data Scientist, Notifications to help shape the strategy, measurement, and optimization of its notifications experience. This role will work closely with product, engineering, and machine learning leadership to improve the full user journey, identify growth opportunities, and enhance the systems responsible for notifications delivery and content.

The successful candidate will combine strong expertise in statistics, machine learning, experimentation, product analytics, and data storytelling. This position will also provide technical leadership and mentorship to other data scientists while influencing important product and engineering decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop measurement frameworks and metrics that support data-driven decision-making and optimize the full user journey.
  • Provide clear, actionable recommendations to product and engineering leadership on how to evolve the notifications strategy.
  • Conduct deep analyses to identify shortcomings, opportunities, and areas for improvement within notifications and growth strategies.
  • Develop opportunity sizing analyses to help teams prioritize high-impact initiatives.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to product, engineering, and machine learning leadership.
  • Help prioritize and scope projects that influence the notifications user experience and supporting machine learning systems.
  • Contribute directly to improvements in machine learning models that power notifications delivery and content.
  • Identify and develop new features, signals, and analytical approaches to improve notification systems.
  • Translate complex analytical findings into compelling data narratives for leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Mentor other data scientists and help guide the scope and quality of their work.
  • Lead key technical projects and substantially influence the scope, direction, and outcomes of work across teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to iterate on user-facing products through experimentation and data-driven insights.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of combined post-graduate academic and industry experience applying scientific methods to solve real-world problems using web-scale data.
  • Strong background in statistics, machine learning, and/or experimentation.
  • Expertise in at least one scripting language, ideally Python or R.
  • Proficiency in SQL and/or Hive.
  • Strong business and product sense, with the ability to transform ambiguous questions into well-defined analyses and measurable success criteria.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead initiatives across multiple product areas.
  • Ability to communicate complex findings to leadership and product teams through clear and compelling data narratives.
  • Experience working closely with cross-functional teams to improve user-facing products through A/B experimentation.
  • Experience leading significant technical projects and influencing the scope and output of other team members.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or another relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • The role can be based remotely within the country.
  • The position requires in-person collaboration approximately 1–2 times per quarter.
  • The working model may vary depending on organizational and role-specific requirements.
