The Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer will set the personalization strategy across the consumer shopping journey and lead the development of machine learning solutions that improve search relevance and consumer experiences across restaurant, grocery, retail, and other business categories.
The role requires strong expertise in production-level machine learning, deep learning, recommendation systems, and large language models, combined with the ability to solve complex end-user problems and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and drive the engineering vision, strategy, and execution for a large-scale organization.
- Establish personalization strategies across the entire consumer shopping journey.
- Lead the development and implementation of machine learning solutions that improve search relevance and personalization.
- Modernize recommendation systems by leveraging artificial intelligence and advanced machine learning technologies.
- Build, grow, and nurture high-impact, business-focused product engineering teams.
- Scale engineering organizations by developing internal leaders and attracting world-class technical talent.
- Mentor and guide engineering teams in establishing effective architectural patterns and technical practices.
- Evaluate technology vendors and make strategic investments that anticipate long-term organizational and business needs.
- Drive multi-quarter technical roadmaps and maintain clear ownership of architectural decisions.
- Partner with Business, Product, and Engineering teams to help transform the organization from local commerce toward agentic commerce.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to translate complex consumer problems into scalable machine learning solutions.
- Apply AI coding tools throughout the software development lifecycle, including software design, code generation, testing, monitoring, and release.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent technical field.
- 10+ years of industry experience developing machine learning models with measurable business impact.
- Extensive experience shipping machine learning solutions to production environments.
- Strong proficiency with AI coding tools such as Claude Code across the full software development lifecycle.
- Proven ability to lead multi-quarter technical roadmaps and make critical architectural decisions.
- Deep expertise in deep learning and model fine-tuning.
- Hands-on experience optimizing large language model systems, including fine-tuning, advanced prompting strategies, and structured JSON or tool-calling outputs.
- Strong technical judgment and the ability to influence and align cross-functional stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through technical expertise, collaboration, humility, and a growth mindset.
- Strong understanding of production machine learning infrastructure and scalable recommendation systems.
- Experience solving complex end-user problems through data-driven and machine learning approaches.
