About the Team

The Payments Platform team develops the infrastructure that enables businesses to accept and move money across global markets. The platform supports payment processing, routing, settlement, reconciliation, and partner integrations while helping businesses improve payment conversion and reduce operational friction.

The team focuses on balancing performance, reliability, regional complexity, customer experience, and commercial outcomes. Engineers work on mission-critical infrastructure where improvements can directly influence customer experience and business growth.

The organization is seeking an Engineering Director, Payments Platform to lead teams responsible for building and operating critical components of the Payments Platform. This role combines people leadership, technical direction, strategic planning, and delivery ownership across a global engineering organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute the vision, strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the Payments Platform.
• Oversee payment processing, routing, settlement, reconciliation, and partner integration capabilities across global markets.
• Lead, coach, and develop Engineering Managers and senior technical talent across multiple engineering teams.
• Build a culture of ownership, technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Provide architectural direction for high-volume, mission-critical payment systems.
• Establish and maintain high standards for reliability, observability, security, scalability, and developer productivity.
• Set clear objectives and key results and manage execution across multiple concurrent initiatives.
• Hold engineering teams accountable for delivering high-quality outcomes while balancing short-term priorities with long-term platform investments.
• Partner closely with Product, Commercial, Risk, Compliance, and regional engineering leaders to align technology initiatives with business objectives.
• Ensure platform capabilities support business growth, customer experience, and regulatory requirements.
• Drive operational excellence and maintain the long-term health and reliability of the Payments Platform.
• Guide teams in solving complex technical and business challenges across global payment environments.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles.
• Demonstrated experience managing Engineering Managers or Engineering Leads.
• Proven track record of building and scaling high-performing engineering teams.
• Strong product thinking and the ability to partner closely with Product Management.
• Experience defining roadmaps, prioritizing initiatives, and delivering measurable business outcomes.
• Deep technical expertise in software architecture and system design.
• Experience guiding architectural decisions for large-scale and complex distributed systems.
• Proven ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
• Strong focus on ownership, continuous improvement, and speed of execution.
• Experience in fintech, financial services, payments, or another regulated industry where correctness and data integrity are critical.
• Strong communication, collaboration, strategic thinking, and people leadership skills.
