The organization is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer, Agentic AI Engineering to help design and build the foundational systems powering intelligent financial operations. This role focuses on creating scalable backend services, resilient APIs, and robust data architectures that support autonomous financial workflows and AI-native applications.
The successful candidate will work at the intersection of distributed systems and artificial intelligence, helping to develop enterprise-grade financial platforms that automate processes such as bookkeeping, reconciliation, tax, payroll, forecasting, and document understanding. Key Responsibilities
- Design and operate distributed, event-driven systems that process high-volume, sensitive financial data with strict reliability and latency requirements.
- Build production-grade APIs and backend services using Python, FastAPI, and Pydantic to support agentic workflows and AI-powered financial infrastructure.
- Own end-to-end data architecture, including schema design, event models, ledger primitives, and scalable storage solutions.
- Develop resilient infrastructure capabilities such as queuing, retries, idempotency, observability, and backpressure handling.
- Build feedback loops that enable product data to continuously improve AI models and allow models to enhance system behavior autonomously.
- Develop internal frameworks, SDKs, and tooling that accelerate engineering productivity across the organization.
- Collaborate closely with machine learning and product teams to transform research-driven concepts into customer-facing solutions.
- Help define the architecture of an AI-native financial technology stack where AI is treated as a core runtime component.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of backend engineering experience with Python in large-scale production environments.
- Deep expertise in SQL and NoSQL database design.
- Strong experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and microservices.
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform services, including Pub/Sub, Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, BigQuery, and Key Management Services (KMS).
- Solid understanding of security, compliance, and enterprise software best practices.
- Passion for building backend platforms that power intelligent, AI-driven products.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and cross-functional teams.
