Summary
The Senior / Principal Data Scientist will lead data-driven initiatives to optimize discovery and recommendation systems. This role combines advanced statistical modeling, machine learning, experimentation, and cross-functional leadership to improve user engagement, ecosystem health, and content visibility on the platform.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of machine learning solutions and ranking frameworks for key discovery surfaces including Home, Search, Matchmaking, and Notifications
  • Act as the primary scientific advisor to Product and Engineering teams, providing insights that influence product innovation and roadmap decisions
  • Design and execute experiments using causal inference methodologies to measure platform initiatives while accounting for complex network effects
  • Develop frameworks to scale hypothesis generation and experimentation processes in line with platform growth
  • Apply first-principles problem solving to balance visibility of established content with discovery of new user-generated content
  • Translate complex, high-dimensional data into actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Math, or Economics
  • 10+ years of experience (or 6+ with a PhD) in Data Science, Economics, or ML Engineering, specifically with large-scale recommendation systems or user-generated content platforms
  • Expertise in modern data stack tools including Python, R, SQL, Hive, Spark, and Airflow
  • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of Deep Learning
  • Ability to design sophisticated experiments that account for social network effects and two-sided marketplace dynamics
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to distill complex problems into concise, actionable insights for executives
