A leading technology-driven organization is seeking an Engineering Manager, Data to oversee and guide the development of enterprise-scale data solutions. The company relies on timely, accurate, and reliable data to support business and product decisions. The Data Engineering team builds and maintains database solutions, data warehouses, and analytics infrastructure that underpin decision-making, marketing optimization, reporting, and operational efficiency. The team also focuses on improving the developer experience through tools that support high-velocity workflows and innovation.

Summary
The Engineering Manager, Data will lead a team of data engineers while acting as a technical authority on data architecture. The role combines people leadership, technical vision, and strategic planning to ensure scalable, reliable, and high-quality data solutions. The manager will build and nurture a high-performing team and drive innovation across a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, hire, and mentor a growing team of data engineers to deliver business-focused solutions
  • Drive technical and strategic vision for data architecture, ETL orchestration, and analytics platforms
  • Plan and execute short-term and long-term initiatives with a focus on reliability, scalability, and engineering excellence
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders, data scientists, and external partners
  • Break down complex systems into reusable, easy-to-use data assets and components
  • Identify and implement continuous improvements in data infrastructure, architecture, and development processes
  • Maintain hands-on engagement to close gaps in infrastructure or technical execution when needed

Qualifications

  • B.S., M.S., or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent field
  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering or a related domain
  • 2+ years of hands-on management experience, including hiring, coaching, mentoring, and performance management
  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Hands-on experience with SQL and Python
  • Familiarity with Snowflake or Redshift, AWS or GCP, Hadoop/Spark, Big Data architectures, Lambda/Kappa architectures, Flink, and Airflow
  • Prior experience with large-scale batch and real-time ETL orchestration
  • Knowledge of systems engineering and building big data processing systems at scale
  • Familiarity with Datalake solutions such as Delta Lake or Apache Iceberg
  • Exposure to various databases such as CockroachDB, Cassandra, and PostgreSQL
  • Experience with cloud-based environments and scalable data systems is highly desirable
