Job Description
Responsibilities
• Map opportunity: size and prioritize new recommendation surfaces, intents, and cohorts; analyze funnel performance across segments to guide roadmap decisions.
• Own evaluation framework: define north stars and guardrails (diversity, novelty, duplication, safety); establish thresholds and trade-offs; publish objective and evaluation contracts per surface.
• Align offline and online metrics: quantify correlations between offline IR metrics (NDCG@K, MAP, MRR, coverage, calibration) and online KPIs; monitor metric drift and publish error bounds.
• Create leading indicators: develop short-horizon metrics to predict long-term outcomes; conduct backtesting and post-hoc causal checks.
• Build measurement architecture: define identity and attribution standards, qualifying events, and measurement windows to ensure trustworthy downstream metrics.
• Design and run advanced experiments: interleaving tests, pre-register stop/go criteria, and provide concise readouts driving actionable decisions.
• Collaborate with Analytics and Data Engineers to codify schemas, freshness, leakage, and drift checks; establish high-quality datasets for recommendation algorithms.
• Evaluate LLMs and embeddings: determine measurable improvements for offline/online metrics; prototype and provide clear specifications for ML engineers.
• Storytelling and influence: write decision memos, align cross-functional teams, and guide clear decisions with trade-offs and risks communicated.

Qualifications
• 8+ years of experience in Data Science, preferably in recommendations, search, or ranking, with demonstrated impact.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL; experience with Spark.
• Fluency in ranking evaluation metrics (NDCG@K, MAP, MRR, calibration, coverage/diversity) and awareness of exposure/selection bias.
• Expertise in experiment design and connecting offline metrics to online outcomes.
• Ability to translate product goals into loss functions, features, and engineering specifications.
• Nice to have: familiarity with LLMs/embeddings evaluation offline and online; embeddings/vector search assessment for lift versus latency/cost.
