Job Title: Data Science Leader – SEA Governance & Experience

A leading e-commerce company is seeking a seasoned Data Science Leader for its Southeast Asia Governance & Experience team. This pivotal role involves leveraging substantial data and analytics expertise to drive business growth through data-driven insights. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team, applying advanced statistical modeling and machine learning techniques, and ensuring robust A/B testing methodologies.

Key Qualifications:

• Substantial data and analytics experience: Candidates should possess a Master’s degree or higher in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, computer science, or economics, coupled with extensive data science experience. A PhD or MBA is considered a significant advantage.
• Managerial experience: A minimum of five years of managerial experience in a data science or analytics leadership capacity is required, with a demonstrated history of successfully fostering business growth through data-driven insights.
• Technical expertise: Proficiency in various statistical modeling techniques, machine learning algorithms, and data visualization tools is essential. The role demands expertise in SQL, Hive, Python, or R, along with experience in massive data manipulation, machine learning, and modeling.
• A/B testing mastery: A solid technical understanding and knowledge of A/B testing methodologies are crucial, with a proven ability to consistently explore and implement best practices.
• Analytical mindset: Candidates must exhibit an insightful data sense and a rigorous logical mindset, capable of developing systematic approaches to solve complex business problems.
• Strong business orientation: A deep understanding of the Southeast Asian e-commerce market, including its unique cultural, economic, and technological landscape, is highly valued. While not strictly required, prior experience in SEA e-commerce is recommended.

Preferred Qualifications:

• International team collaboration: The ability to operate effectively as part of an international team is critical, as this role is integral to a global Data Science, Strategy, and Insight team. Responsibilities include leveraging global best practices, customizing solutions for the South East Asia and Japan markets, and piloting new projects for global rollout.
• Communication and presentation skills: Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are preferred, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Detail-oriented operational perspective: A keen understanding of the operational intricacies of a large e-commerce marketplace is highly beneficial. While the Data Science, Strategy, and Insight team does not directly own policies, developing a deep understanding of various operations is critical to success, enabling the individual to become a key thought partner to leadership.
