The lead government agency in Singapore drives the nation’s Smart Nation initiative and public sector digital transformation.

Job Title: Lead Data Scientist

What they will be working on:

As a Data Scientist, the individual will identify opportunities for data exploitation through in-depth conversations with business stakeholders. This includes:

  • Understanding the evolving problems and strategizing about what data and techniques would be needed to solve them.
  • Developing different machine learning models, tracking their effectiveness, and deploying the most appropriate solution.
  • Building and operating production systems independently (with light engineering support together with engineers) to serve these solutions.
  • Presenting findings, soliciting feedback, and prioritizing refinements to the analysis in close iteration with stakeholders while managing the overall project timeline.
  • Establishing best practices for developing data science / ML systems.
  • Providing technical leadership across multiple product teams.
  • Sharing their expertise, mentoring and/or managing other data scientists.
  • Helping with recruiting.

Because their team focuses on pushing new initiatives, the individual will also have to:

  • Identify potential projects that improve the public good.
  • Design novel systems that work around bureaucratic constraints.
  • Advocate and explain these technical ideas to other government agencies.

What they are looking for:

  • Experience in model development (e.g., regression, random forests, LLMs, Graph Neural Networks) and deployment (e.g., Sagemaker, TensorFlow).
  • Experience in stakeholder management.
  • Experience in agile development.
  • Experience in developing capability in others.
