Big Data Engineer (Financial Services) Manager, Technology Consulting

Job Description

As part of the Data and Analytics team within the Financial Services Consulting practice, you will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on diverse big data projects aimed at generating and presenting new, valuable, and actionable insights. You will have opportunities to engage in challenging assignments, gaining exposure to clients across various sectors in Singapore and the APAC region.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Participate in large-scale client engagements.
• Contribute to or lead the delivery of innovative big data solutions.
• Understand business and technical requirements, provide subject matter expertise, and implement big data engineering techniques.
• Conduct data discovery, perform root cause analysis, and recommend solutions for data quality issues.
• Apply strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize and complete multiple complex projects under tight deadlines.

• Strong presentation skills and proficiency in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
• Good understanding of the financial services industry.

To Qualify for the role, you must have

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related fields.
• Minimum 6 years of relevant experience (9+ years for Senior Manager consideration).
• Understanding or practical experience with semi-structured and unstructured data.
• Deep understanding of big data technology, concepts, tools, features, functions, and benefits.
• Ability to deploy, manage, and administer Hadoop-based components.
• Ability to design, build, install, configure, and support Hadoop-based applications.
• Experience with one of Java, Python, C# or C++.
• Experience with ETL tools (e.g., Talend, Informatica, AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory). Hands-on Talend experience is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with HiveQL.
• Familiarity with data ingestion tools (e.g., Kafka, Flume, Sqoop).
• Knowledge of Hadoop workflow/scheduling tools (e.g., Oozie).
• Understanding of data modeling (ER models) techniques.
• Experience investigating and handling data quality issues.

Ideally, you’ll also have

• Design or implementation experience of data models in leading RDBMS platforms (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, IBM DB2/Netezza, Teradata).
• Experience with Business Intelligence or statistical analysis tools and techniques.
• Strong communication and business relationship skills to explain analysis effectively and translate it into business plans.
• Strong time management and organizational skills for data utilization.
