Data Engineer, Digital Government Blueprint (DGB 2.0)

Role Overview
The Data Engineer will contribute to the Digital Government Blueprint (DGB2.0) program, a key initiative for building data products that optimize whole-of-government operations and service delivery. Working within a data team embedded in a strategic government agency, the Data Engineer will collaborate with IT teams and business users to create cloud-based data solutions, from data ingestion pipelines to secure access mechanisms. This role requires cloud infrastructure expertise, proficiency in data modeling, and strong communication skills to interact with various stakeholders and partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate business users’ data requirements into technical specifications.
  • Build and maintain data products, including data ingestion pipelines and reusable data models.
  • Monitor and maintain ETL systems and databases, ensuring high performance and availability.
  • Design secure access mechanisms for data in data warehouses and implement data governance policies.
  • Maintain a data catalog and enforce data security, quality, and validation processes.
  • Explore and propose new technologies to enhance the agency’s data infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong background in system design, data structures, algorithms, data modeling, and storage.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with orchestration frameworks (e.g., Airflow, Azure Data Factory) and distributed data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop).
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala, as well as SQL for databases.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools (e.g., Docker, Git, Terraform).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Databricks and building batch and real-time data pipelines.
  • Knowledge of data security, data quality, and data governance.
  • Familiarity with government data governance policies and data infrastructure management.
