This intensive 5-week workshop, designed by Pivigo, supports PhD and MSc-level academics in transitioning into commercial data science roles. During the programme, I collaborated as part of a team of six on a project for our client, Spot Intelligence, a company specialising in providing insights to its clients through natural language processing (NLP). The aim was to develop a lightweight, versatile app using Dash-Plotly, designed to support initial dataset exploration.

As part of the programme, I:
– Attended lectures on communication, teamwork, project management (Agile), and technical skills (including coding best practices and the use of Git/GitHub).
– Delivered presentations to the S2DS cohort and business leaders interested in data science.
– Applied BERTopic for topic clustering, ensuring the semantic integrity of text data.
– Contributed to “Thematic Space Explorer,” a Dash-Plotly app designed to reveal thematic groupings and patterns through visualisations.
– Collaborated with five team members effectively using Git/GitHub.

Financial Controlling Manager (Backend Test Segment)

• Conducted direct personnel and fixed asset forecasts, utilising Tableau for enhanced visualisation and data-driven insights.
• Key consultant to production teams on capital investment decisions and fixed assets transfers advisory, contributing to compliance with company policies and cost optimisation.
• Prepared the Monthly Cost Performance presentation for the operations lead, showcasing analytical skills.

• Took the opportunity to reconnect and spend meaningful time with an elderly parent during the COVID-19 period, while balancing personal and professional priorities.
• Engaged in self-learning data analytics through mini courses online, building foundational knowledge in SQL, Python programming, and descriptive and inferential statistics.

Regional Senior Financial Analyst (APAC) – Maternity Cover

• Led Monthly Financial Reporting for the five countries in APAC, analysing key financial metrics, and presenting financial results to APAC Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
• Chaired bi-weekly cash forecast meetings, which included analysis and projection of cash flow position and working capital management as presented to the APAC CFO and FP&A Manager for decision-making.
• Managed active monitoring and tracking of the monthly marketing cost sheets submitted by the local marketing team in compliance with the company’s internal control requirements.

Regional Senior Financial Analyst, Seconded as Commercial Controller

• Spearheaded the VISION forecasting tool project, streamlining forecasting templates and user training, and reducing data consolidation time from 3.5 hours to 1 hour (70%-time savings).
• Project-managed the robotic process automation (RPA) projects between Finance, Global RPA, and Global Business Intelligence teams to ensure deliverables met requirements.
• Developed a new consolidation process using Excel Macros (VBA) for monthly rolling forecasts, reducing person-hours from 4 hours to 30 minutes (75%-time savings).
• Contributed to the Microsoft Power BI group focused on management and operational dashboards throughout all countries in the region.
